Oven Not Working – Oven Not Heating Up, Why ?
The oven is an extremely important appliance in the kitchen. Many recipes require the use of an oven in order to be cooked correctly.
It is also an important part of a healthy diet because it is a healthier option for cooking food. When an oven breaks down, it can ruin a diet and even disrupt your very livelihood.
There are many reasons why an oven might not heat up. It is important to figure out the root of this problem step-by-step in order to properly figure out the cause. In addition, if there is a particular problem you should always look to an expert for assistance.
The following are some reasons why an oven might not heat up correctly. These tips work for both conventional and toaster ovens.
This piece of equipment is the part of the oven that most commonly stops working. It draws an electrical current through the oven and heats up to ignite the gas in the burner.
The igniter will eventually get weak to the point that it no longer lights up correctly. In order to determine it needs to replaced, turn on the oven to start heating. If the igniter is weak, the pilot light or gas flame will not ignite.
2. Bake Element
The bake element glows red hot when it is functioning correctly. When this element stops working it will no longer glow. The main problems might be damage to the element itself.
This damage is usually visible on the element itself. If there is any damage the element should be replaced.
3. Bake Spark Electrode
The bake spark electrode is used for both baking and broiling and ignites the gas in the oven.
It works by receiving electricity to create a spark that jumps to the electrode shield and ignites the gas. When the electrode is broken it will no longer create a spark.
If you inspect the electrode while attempting to light the oven and it does not spark, you should seek replacement.
However, there could be other problems related to the electrode that are not readily visible, in which case you should check with a repairman.
4. Broil Element
The broil element works much like the bake element. When it is not working it will no longer glow red. This can be seen by visible damage to the element that will keep it from working properly. If it is visibly damaged the element should be replaced.
5. Incoming Power
Electric ovens always require at least 240V from alternating current to work. Gas ovens on the other hand need half that amount to function.
If the oven is no longer turning on, then you should check the wall socket or power source to make sure it is providing sufficient power to the oven.
6. Thermal Fuse
A thermal fuse trips whenever the oven gets too hot and shuts off the oven completely. Eventually, the thermal use may get blown out and this will cause the oven to stop heating up.
If there is a faulty thermal fuse, then it will not be able to be reset. In this case it should be replaced.
7. Damaged Wire Connection
You should check to see if any wires that supply power to parts of the oven are loose or burnt out.
If there is any sign of an improperly connected wire or scorching, then the wire will need to be replaced. Otherwise, the oven will not receive power and will not start.
8. Power Relay
The power relay sends the electrical current to the different parts of the oven. It is possible that the relay has been burnt or stopped working, which means the oven will not heat. If you have a defective relay board, then you will need to get a new one for your oven.
9. Oven Control Board
The oven control board works much like the power relay, but controls the circuits that relate to baking and broiling according to the settings you have given the oven. When the board is defective, then it will not properly heat the oven.
10. Safety Valve
This valve connects the oven to its gas supple. If the valve is not working, then it will not send gas to the oven. You should check the safety valve if it is no longer heating up.
This is the part of the oven that controls and regulates the temperature. If the oven is no longer heating, then the thermostat might be broken.
There is a fluid inside a small copper tube within the space of the oven. However it is difficult to identify if this is the cause of a heating problem.
12. Valve and Pressure Regulator
This is probably the least common problem for an oven. It is almost always unlikely this regulator has been broken.
